Rocketman Command Center: A Utility for Jamf Pro
The goal of this session is to show Jamf admins how Rocketman Command Center (RCC), a modular CLI tool, can replace finicky shell scripts and introduce a more secure, reliable way to automate Jamf Pro tasks at scale. Attendees will understand the “why” behind common scripting pitfalls and see how RCC addresses them.
We begin by identifying key security and stability challenges that arise when managing hundreds or thousands of Macs with ad‑hoc shell scripts. Next, we introduce RCC’s toolbox of commands—ranging from Rename Computer and Secure Token Sharing to Upload Jamf Logs and Rapid Response—and demonstrate how each can be invoked with a single `rocketman` command. We’ll cover global configuration via managed `.plist` files or Jamf parameters, proper API credential handling, and SwiftDialog‑based user prompts.
Attendees will learn how to:
1. Recognize the security vulnerabilities and maintenance burdens of large‑scale shell scripting in Jamf Pro environments.
2. Map common workflows to RCC commands and configure them for automated execution.
3. Apply best practices for encrypted credential storage and API token handling to safeguard Jamf Pro integrations.
Methodology:
– Demonstrations of RCC modules executing critical tasks.
– Step‑by‑step walkthrough of each tool's configuration and Jamf Pro parameter integration.
– Case study with Mac admin Dan Lawrence, highlighting how he eliminated scripting headaches and secured deployments across hundreds of devices.
